Mykonos
White lanes, windmills at sunset, sandy beaches and the ruins of Delos.
A small, dry Cycladic island known for its maze of white lanes, the windmills above Little Venice, sandy beaches and a big summer party scene. It's also the boat stop for Delos, the sacred island of ancient Greece. Among the dearest places in Greece in summer, and mostly shut from November to March.

Staying and getting around
Good areas to stay
Mykonos town (Chora). The white lanes, Little Venice, the windmills and the old port, with the boats to Delos; lively at night and dear to sleep in.
The south beaches. Ornos, Psarou, Platys Gialos and the party beaches further east, with the island's campsite and some cheaper rooms a short bus ride from town.
Flying in
Mykonos Airport (JMK): Taxi or shuttle into town (about 4 km); few buses, about 15 min, ≈ A$26. Taxis are few at busy times; book a shuttle ahead in summer (check).
Flewaway's estimate for the usual budget way into Mykonos town (Chora); check times and fares before you fly.
By ferry
Mykonos is reached by ferry from Port of Piraeus. Conventional and fast ferries from Piraeus (or Rafina, closer to Athens airport), about 2.5–5 h, to the new port just north of town; book ahead in summer, and wind can delay sailings (check)
Getting around
Mostly on foot. A single ticket is ≈ A$4. Chora is on foot. KTEL buses from the town's two bus stations reach the main beaches and Ano Mera, about €2 a ride (check); small boats hop along the south coast from Platys Gialos in summer.
Tourist tax
Greece's climate resilience fee is per room a night: on Mykonos about €8 for simple rooms in summer, split between you, less in winter. Paid at check-in (check).
