Staying and getting around
Good areas to stay
San Zeno. A local neighbourhood around the great Romanesque church; quieter and better value.
Veronetta. Across the river: the Roman theatre, the Giusti garden, students and the hostel.
Around the station. Handy for trains to the lake and Venice, with budget rooms.
Flying in
Verona Villafranca (VRN): Aerobus to Verona Porta Nuova, about 15 min, ≈ A$12.
Flewaway's estimate for the usual budget way into Verona; check times and fares before you fly.
Getting around
You can walk everywhere. A single ticket is ≈ A$3. The old town is a 15-minute walk from the station and easy on foot. Buses cost about €1.50 (check).
Verona Card (24 hours) (≈ A$47, 24 hours): Only if you'll see the Arena and three or more other paid sights in a day.
Tourist tax
Verona's city tax: usually about €2–3 a person a night in hostels and B&Bs, more in hotels, for up to 5 nights; under-14s don't pay. Paid at check-in (check).
